We have cleaned out thousands of gutters so we know what we are talking about when it comes to preventing blockages in stormwater downpipes !!
Over the years we have seen many different products used to try and prevent blocked downpipes. Professionally installed guard and foam , DIY guard, gutter brushes – you name it , we have seen it. The worse thing is that none of it prevents your gutters from having to be cleaned.
A gutter that is covered with guard is a major problem to clean both for a home owner and for a professional gutter cleaner. If the gutter still needs to be cleaned, then why spend thousands to cover it and then thousands again to have it lifted and gutters cleaned ?
We have the solution. Flowmate ( designed and engineered in Australia for Aussie and Kiwi conditions. )
Your gutters will still need a clean out at an appropriate timeframe for your situation. Flowmates provide protection from blockages in your stormwater system past your gutter dropper.

You can’t stop the leaves dropping, so target the real problem they cause … blocked downpipes!
About Flowmate
Founded by Marc Plowman on the Sunshine Coast, Flowmate was created to solve the constant headaches of clogged gutters and failed gutter guards. Partnering with local engineers, Marc designed a patent-pending downpipe insert that’s tough, easy to install, and built for Aussie and Kiwi conditions. Flowmate keeps water flowing, saves time on maintenance, and helps protect homes from costly water damage.

FAQ's
Flowmate isn’t a gutter guard — it’s a downpipe protection system. Instead of covering your whole gutter, it’s designed to keep water flowing by stopping blockages where they actually start — at the downpipe. No mess, no overengineering, and no need to remove anything during a clean. It’s a simple, smart solution that prevents overflow and costly water damage without getting in the way.
Flowmate’s dropper (70mm × 40mm) is designed to fit most standard residential downpipes in Australia and New Zealand — including 100×50mm rectangular and 90mm round downpipes.
Need a tweak? We can adjust plates for half-rounds, smaller outlets, or unique setups.
Flowmate is a compact gutter insert. It’s the smarter alternative to traditional gutter guard systems — keeping homes safe without expensive installs.
Rule of thumb: one Flowmate per downpipe. Count your outlets and you’ll know how many to order.
No. Flowmate is designed for easy DIY installation. Simply place it into your downpipe outlet — no screws, no tools, no fuss. Tradies love it too, because it saves them time on gutter cleans and upsells easily with other gutter accessories.
Traditional gutter guards cover the whole gutter and often create new problems — trapping debris, costing thousands to install, and needing to be removed for every clean.
Flowmate is different. It’s a cost-effective gutter accessory that targets the real problem: blocked downpipes. By keeping water flowing where it matters most, you avoid leaks, stains, and foundation damage — without the hassle of full-coverage guards.
Yes. Flowmate is designed to be compatible with most gutter systems used across Australia and New Zealand. Whether you have half-round, square, or standard box gutters, Flowmate can be fitted or adjusted to suit.
When gutters block, water backs up and overflows — leading to stains, rot, and expensive repairs. Flowmate prevents this by keeping the downpipe clear, ensuring water exits freely even if leaves are sitting in the gutter.

Installation
- Position the plate so it fully covers the downpipe opening. Ensure it fits snugly in the gutter.

Snap the Flowmate into the Plate
- Slide the Flowmate into the gutter and securely snap it onto the plate.

Regular Maintenance is Key
- Flowmate will keep the water flowing but doesn't replace regular gutter cleaning.
- Generally you should clean gutters once or twice a year depending on situation.
Brackets Hindering Installation?
A small percentage of customers with lower height gutters that have downpipes below or around the brackets attaching gutters can experience difficulty installing under those brackets. We have a simple two-minute process that works very well.
1. Marking
Draw on the Flowmate - take some estimation and artistic liberties to mark the horizontal line on each side, showing how far down you need to cut so the Flowmate will fit under the bracket.

2. Pull Flowmate Apart
At the spout, pull the Flowmate apart. Be careful as the weight inside the Flowmate can become displaced and might damage something if it falls. The weight is heavy and prevents the Flowmate from floating, and is extremely necessary.
3. Remove Weight
Remove the weight and hold it in a safe place.
4. Cut Around the Ink Lines
Cut around the ink lines drawn on each side of the Flowmate. Note: The fit needs to be as close as possible without getting too specific. If there are gaps, no worries, as water will flow—it does not have to be perfect.

5. Place Weight
Secure the weight on one side—very easy.
6. Line Up and Snap Together
Line up the posts and snap together until the two pieces are tight against each other.

7. Slide Flowmate into Place
Lastly, slide the Flowmate at an angle under the bracket. Line up and snap it into the plate. The notches you cut will allow the Flowmate to fit under the bracket or spike. That's it! Your installation is complete!
